Sigma Helps High School Physics Students Apply Knowledge to Roller Coaster Models

Nearly 30 high school sophomores and juniors, primarily from MPS and Milwaukee charter schools, recently wrapped up their six week summer Upward Bound Math and Science program by designing, building and demonstrating a roller coaster in a judged competition at Marquette University. Volunteers from The Sigma Group participated as judges in the roller coaster competition, offering the students feedback and encouragement on their designs.
The UBMS program allows students to participate in an enriched integrated math, science, engineering and technology curriculum. Program students met daily to learn about physics concepts and experiment in the Marquette physics labs. The students also took a trip to Great America, then designed and built their coasters.
