The Sigma Group mentors Marquette University students

In the spring of 2006, Sigma strengthened its relationship with the surrounding Menomonee River Valley community by serving as mentors for students at neighboring Marquette University. The Civil and Environmental Engineering Senior Design Class had two different projects that Sigma assisted students with planning, analysis, and design. One of the projects was to develop a permanent solution to eliminate the accumulation of sediment and debris on the north bank of Menomonee River at the Emmber Lane Bridge.

The project was made available for the students by Sigma meeting with members from the Menomonee Valley Business Partners, Menomonee Valley Partners, City of Milwaukee, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), City of Milwaukee Port, Friend of Milwaukee's Rivers, and other Menomonee Vally stakeholder groups to determine that a solution was desired. To apply for grants and determined funding needs, conceptual designs were necessary to determine construction costs.

The student team came up with three design options and associated cost estimates for the Menomonee Valley stakeholder groups as a starting point to gather more information. Please see attached links for design option descriptions, figures, evaluation matrix, and cost estimates.
