Emmpak beef processing operations in the Milwaukee area include Emmpak-Butler (formerly Wis-Pak), which primarily produces frozen patties and Emmpak-Milwaukee, located in the Menomonee Valley, whose operations include slaughter, meat packing, case-ready production, and new product development. Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Program Assistance Sigma has served Emmpak as an outsource for EHS compliance programs. Developed and maintain systematic tracking and calendaring of applicable requirements related to air emission, wastewater, storm water, hazardous waste, SARA reporting and OSHA driven regulations. Participated in Process Safety Management implementation and developed risk management plans for ammonia refrigeration at both plants. Wastewater Management and Storm Water Permitting and Management Sigma has designed, selected and commissioned an automatic screening system to remove solids from slaughter operation wastewater resulting in payback for increased recovery of materials for rendering. Directed installations of pH adjust system for food processing rinses. Evaluating advanced treatment approaches to reduce user fees. Developed and implemented Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) and Spill Prevention and Countermeasure Plans (SPCC). Investigation, Remediation, and Closure Sigma has conducted subsurface investigation of 11 specific areas of concern at the Menomonee Valley Operation related to material handling, historical land filling, fueling system underground storage tank removals. Negotiated with Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources closure approaches involving remediation by natural attenuation and selective excavation of impacted soils. Asbestos Management Sigma has coordinated asbestos abatement in over 20 buildings involving the removal of thermal insulation, flooring, and wall finishes. Performed contractor monitoring and conducted clearance to ensure safe conditions during and after work. |
