Demolition & Hazardous Materials Management
Demolition is the beginning, not the end. It initiates the process of redevelopment, and its successful completion has a positive impact on the timeframe to start new construction, and on the financial success of an overall redevelopment project.
A myriad of state and federal regulations exist that pertain to the facility demolition process, regardless of the facilities’ age or its historical uses. Asbestos regulations place the burden of assuring a thorough pre-demolition asbestos inspection is conducted squarely on the shoulders of the facility owner or operator. In addition to asbestos containing materials, various building components such as lead painted materials, refrigerants in cooling systems, mercury containing switches, PCB containing devices, hydraulic oils, and other hazardous materials that may have accumulated in facilities over time, must be identified prior to demolition and properly managed to comply with regulatory requirements.
Sigma’s approach to demolition focuses on properly planning and delivering a cost effective project that meets the needs and constraints of the overall site redevelopment. Sigma’s knowledge and experience with contaminated facilities and Brownfield development enables us to assist redevelopment stakeholders with the entire process, from pre-demolition asbestos and hazardous materials inspections, through demolition planning and design, and the subsequent site engineering associated with redeveloping the site.
