Storm Water Management For development sites

Storm Water Management For Construction : The Sigma Group

Management of storm water runoff from construction sites and post-construction development sites is regulated at several levels: State, County, and Local. These regulations can have a significant effect on how a site is developed, and understanding of the applicability of these regulations and their impacts on development is essential in the planning and design of the development.

Typical components of storm water management regulations include control of sediment runoff during and after construction (runoff quality); control of storm water runoff rate (runoff quantity); promotion of storm water infiltration after construction; and preparation of a written storm water management plan. Best Management Practices (BMP's) to meet requirements for storm water runoff control must be implemented during and after construction. Site-specific constraints must be evaluated and accounted for to ensure proper design and implementation of storm water management BMPs.

Conventional storm water management BMPs designed by Sigma include standard erosion control measures (i.e. silt fence, inlet protection, tracking pads, etc.) and above ground storm water detention basins. In addition, Sigma has designed several innovative (low impact) storm water management approaches for construction and development sites to accommodate site specific constraints. Some of the innovative approaches designed and implemented include pervious pavements systems, underground detention systems, and storm water infiltration systems.

Storm Water Management planning and design services for construction and development sites include:

  • Initial site screening to identify site specific constraints
  • Coordination of site storm water infiltration evaluations in accordance with WDNR standards
  • Preparation of conceptual/preliminary storm water management plans
  • Storm water/hydraulic modeling
  • Detailed design of storm water BMPs
  • Preparation of written storm water management plans and storm water facility operation and maintenance plans
  • Preparation and submittal of storm water management plan applications as required at the State, County, and Local levels
